OCVarsity’s girls flag football rankings by Dan Albano for Aug. 11, 2025.

GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL

1. Orange Lutheran: Reigning O.C. player of the year Makena Cook, who suffered a broken leg in soccer, is expected to play for the defending CIF-SS Division 1 champion at Woodbridge on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

2. Newport Harbor: The Sailors graduated All-County QB Maia Helmar but remember, they went 12-0 in the Sunset League last season. Scarlett Guyser and Ally Shaw will be the quarterbacks.

3. Huntington Beach: The Oilers remain formidable with the return of All-County duo of Roxie Shaia and Taylor Savage at quarterback and wide receiver, respectively.

4. JSerra: The Lions landed the county’s best freshmen class with three players — Kate Meier, Tessa Russell and Ava Irwin — from the 15-and-under U.S. national team.

5. Canyon (2-0): With the return of All-County QB Ella Feldhaus, the Comanches expect to be as strong as last season when they reached the Division 1 semifinals.

6. Santa Margarita: Senior Madi Lam returns as one of the best quarterbacks in the county.

7. Northwood: The reigning CIF-SS Division 2 champion will be tough with All-County quarterback Natalie Keith.

8. Trabuco Hills (3-0): The Mustangs, the Division 2 runner-up last season, edged Yorba Linda 20-19 to win the red division at the Ayala tournament over the weekend.

9. Aliso Niguel: The Wolverines deserve respect as the undefeated South Coast League champion from last season.

10. Mater Dei (1-0): Monarchs’ Kendra Hansen has the attention of opposing coaches because of her speed and the new rules that allow quarterbacks unlimited runs.

Also considered: Yorba Linda (2-1)
