GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TOP 10
(Records through Monday, Sept. 22)
1. Mater Dei (15-4): The Monarchs finished third in the top division of the prestigious Durango Fall Classic in Las Vegas this past weekend. Mater Dei’s Westley Matavao and Layli Ostovar were named to the all-tournament team.
2. Los Alamitos (21-8): The Griffins are in first place in the Sunset League with a 6-0 record that includes a victory over Newport Harbor.
3. Newport Harbor (19-7): The Sailors are in second place in the mighty Sunset League with a 5-1 league record. They defeated first-place Los Alamitos in the Competition Division of the Durango Fall Classic in Las Vegas.
4. San Clemente (15-7): The Tritons are 2-1 against San Juan Hills in head-to-head play and split two matches against Newport Harbor.
5. San Juan Hills (14-5): Among the Stallions’ victories are three wins over Santa Margarita.
6. Santa Margarita (7-4): The Eagles, who have played a rugged schedule, have a tournament win over Newport Harbor.
7. Crean Lutheran (20-1): The Saints, whose only loss was to Etiwanda in a tournament, have wins over Beckman and El Dorado and two victories over Sage Hill.
8. JSerra (10-8): The Lions have defeated Newport Harbor and San Juan Hills, and many of their losses are to top teams like Sierra Canyon, Redondo Union and Temecula Valley.
9. Marina (15-6): The Vikings are in third place in the Sunset League with a 5-2 league record. They have league wins over Edison and Huntington Beach.
10. Orange Lutheran (23-4): The Lancers have played a schedule heavy on non-Orange County teams. They have wins over county teams Cypress and El Dorado.
