Irvine’s City Council voted 3-2 to stay with the controversial Orange County Power Authority. However, the council will revisit a potential withdrawal in June 2023.
The decision was made at a special meeting on Thursday, Dec. 29 to discuss Irvine’s future with the ratepayer-funded public agency following the OC Board of Supervisors’ decision to withdraw from the Power Authority last week.
Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan, who sits on the board of the Power Authority, along with Councilmembers Tammy Kim and Kathleen Treseder, voted in favor of remaining with the group. Councilmember Mike Carroll, who also sits on the board, and Councilmember Larry Agran voted against the measure to stick with the OCPA.
